How we checked
We make DuctWright, so we're not neutral. Prices and features come from each company's public pricing and product pages, read on September 19, 2026. We haven't used the other products ourselves. Where we rely on reviews from other sites, we say so. Plans change, so confirm on their site before you decide.

The short answer
Real free plans are rare and limited. Most tools that say "free" give you a trial that ends. We list both kinds below and say which is which.
Free plans
| Tool | What's free | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| FieldVibe Solo | One user, free | Manual reminders only, one device, and no quotes or invoices |
| Orcatec | A free starter package | Its page doesn't say which features are free. Prices for the rest depend on your features and size. |
| Square Invoices | A free plan with core invoicing | It's a general invoicing tool. Check whether it handles equipment records and service plans. |
Free trials (not free plans)
| Tool | Trial |
|---|---|
| Housecall Pro | 14 days, no card |
| Jobber | Free trial, no card |
| DuctWright | 14 days, no card, with every feature and no limits on customers, quotes or invoices. After that, plans start at $29 a month. |
A free plan has limits that stay. A trial doesn't.
Free plans stay free because they leave something out. It may be quotes, invoices, users or devices. That limit never goes away until you pay.
DuctWright works the other way. The trial has no feature limits. You get everything in every plan, for up to 10 techs, with unlimited customers, quotes and invoices. The tradeoff is time. The trial ends after 14 days, and then plans start at $29 a month. DuctWright has no free plan.
What to check before you pick a free tool
- How many users it allows, and whether you can add a helper later.
- Whether it can send quotes and invoices, not just book jobs.
- What it charges when a customer pays by card.
- Whether you can export your customers if you leave.
- What you'll pay when you outgrow the free plan.
When free is enough, and when to pay
If you're one person with a few jobs who only needs to send invoices, a free plan can work. Once you need quotes with options, a schedule, maintenance plans or equipment records, a free plan usually runs out. That's when a low-cost paid plan is worth it.
About "free download" searches
Many searches for free HVAC software end in a download page. Be careful. Get software from the maker's own site, and skip files from sites you don't know.
